"We've adjusted our fleet plan to better reflect the reality of what the manufacturers are able to deliver," CEO Scott Kirby said in an earnings release. Made by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac), the passenger aircraft has been touted as the "dream of a nation" by Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, there are still several hurdles Comac would need to clear before it could take on the French and American aerospace giants' dominance. "As a customer and operator of China's Comac products, we can get financial support from China's import-export bank, and also central banks," Cham told CNBC in an interview. According to Cham, Comac said it would consider creating aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul support for its aircraft in Brunei.

New York CNN —Boeing has achieved the unthinkable this week: It managed to fall even deeper into crisis. It ultimately approved the planes for shipments to airlines in March 2023 after becoming satisfied that Boeing had fixed the problem. Then, during the first weekend of 2024, part of an Alaska Airlines 737 Max blew off the side of the plane just after take-off, and Boeing has been in crisis mode ever since. In February, pilots on a United Airlines 737 Max reported that the flight controls jammed as the plane landed in Newark, New Jersey. The FAA is allowing the planes to continue flying and Boeing said the problem does not pose an immediate safety risk.

New York CNN —Delta Air Lines reported vastly improved earnings in the first quarter, and the company said results should remain strong the rest of the year. Delta predicted it would report record revenue in the second quarter, it said it expects thinner profit margins. So it now expects earnings per share of between $2.20 to $2.50, which would be down from the record adjusted earnings per share of $2.64 a year ago. Delta has no 737 Max jets in its fleet currently, although it has placed orders for some of the jets. In July 2022 it placed an order for 100 of the Boeing 737 Max 10 jets, the largest version of the Max.

Pictures on social media show an Austrian Airlines jet lost its right horizontal stabilizer. A local aviation news site reported the ground crew didn't park the jet properly and it rolled away. Austrian Airlines A320-271N substantially damaged on the ground at Vienna Airport after reportedly colliding with a jet bridge. After the plane arrived at Vienna Airport on Saturday night, it was towed to a parking position. But a member of the ground crew forgot to place the wheel chocks and may not have activated the parking brake, the report said.

Boeing airplane deliveries dropped in the first quarter as the company faces increased scrutiny after a door plug blew out from one of its 737 Max 9 planes midair in January. Boeing customers are still ordering new jets from the manufacturer, which along with Airbus dominates the large-jetliner market. The latest tally comes after the Jan. 5 accident on Alaska Airlines 1282 brought Boeing inches from a catastrophe. Since the accident, the Federal Aviation Administration has inspected Boeing's 737 Max production and barred the plane maker from increasing production of the jets until it signs off on its quality control procedures. "We won't rush or go too fast," Boeing CFO Brian West said at a Bank of America conference last month.

CNN —Spirit Airlines said on Monday it has reached a deal with Airbus to delay all aircraft deliveries scheduled from the second quarter of 2025 through 2026 and intends to furlough about 260 pilots, as the company looks to save cash. As a result of the deferrals, along with quality issues with engines made by supplier Pratt & Whitney, Spirit is furloughing pilots effective Sept. 1. “[The] aircraft deferrals and pilot furloughs look positive, in terms of helping the carrier to reduce [or] defer some costs. Spirit, which has been losing money for several quarters despite strong travel demand, operates an all-Airbus fleet. Spirit now expects to end 2025 with a total of 219 jets in its fleet, with no additions of the A320neo aircraft.

Spirit Airlines said Monday that it will defer deliveries of new Airbus planes and that it plans to furlough about 260 pilots as it tries to boost liquidity. Spirit said it will defer all Airbus planes it has on order that were scheduled to be delivered from the second quarter of 2025 through the end of 2026. The budget airline said the deferrals would boost its liquidity by about $340 million over the next two years. United Airlines pilots' union last month said the company is offering unpaid time off for pilots next month because of late-arriving planes from Boeing . The Air Line Pilots Association, Spirit pilots' union, said Monday it is exploring voluntary measures that could limit the number of pilot furloughs.
